Academic Advising - Student Information

Academic advising is an essential component of a student's educational experience at Saint Louis University.

All undergraduate students are assigned a professional academic advisor who works with them throughout their time at SLU. These advisors provide important information and guidance to help students achieve their educational goals, assist them in navigating various policies and procedures, and are often the initial point of contact between students and campus resources. Learn more about SLU's advising structure, outcomes, and locations.

Contact your Academic Advisor

You can locate, email, and schedule a meeting with your academic advisor through EAB Navigate.

Information for New Students

New to SLU?  Welcome! Academic advisors work with new students to help them understand program requirements, transfer credit, and confirm appropriate courses for their first semester as a Billiken.

  • After you have been admitted to SLU and paid your enrollment deposit, you must complete the appropriate placement tests and surveys. Accurate placement scores are critical, so please be sure to take the tests when you have sufficient time and are free of distractions.
  • New students coming from American high schools or colleges typically connect with academic advising through our SLU 101 Orientation Program. Contact your admission counselor if you are unable to attend SLU 101.
  • New international students will be contacted by an academic advisor once their visa is on file with the University.
Degree Works - Evaluate your Degree Progress

Degree Works is Saint Louis University’s online degree evaluation and is available via mySLU. This important tool allows you to monitor your degree progress. Your academic advisor will assist you in understanding your degree requirements, but it is important for you to know your requirements and play an active role in reaching your academic goals.

Review your degree audit prior to meeting with your academic advisor or mentor, preparing any questions that you may have regarding your degree requirements. You can also run a “what-if” scenario to see how your courses would fit into a different major or minor.

Academic Catalog

Students learn about graduation requirements, policies and procedures in the Academic Catalog. Students follow the graduation requirements outlined in the Academic Catalog of the year for which they are formally admitted or readmitted as certificate- or degree-seeking students. The outlined requirements are referred to as students’ catalog of record.

Peer Advisors

A limited number of undergraduate students have the opportunity to serve as a peer advisor. Peer advisors assist with schedule planning, using relevant University systems and technology, and connect students with useful resources. They do this through regular office hours as well as group events.

Peer advisors participate in the "Peer Advising, Training, Experience, and Reflection" program. Students in this program grow in their leadership skills, become actively engaged in the SLU community, contribute to the intellectual and personal growth of fellow students, and enhance their interpersonal skills.

If you are interested in becoming a peer advisor, email us at Academic Advising.
