Academic Advising - Student Information

Academic advising is an essential component of a student's educational experience at Saint Louis University.

All undergraduate students are assigned a professional academic advisor who works with them throughout their time at SLU.  These advisors provide important information and guidance to help students achieve their educational goals, assist them in navigating various policies and procedures, and are often the initial point of contact between students and campus resources. Information for New Students

New to SLU?  Welcome! Advisors work with new students to help them understand program requirements, transfer credit, and confirm appropriate courses for their first semester as a Billiken.

The first step in this process is for students to complete the appropriate placement tests and surveys. Accurate placement scores are critical, so please be sure to take the tests when you have sufficient time and are free of distractions.

New domestic students typically connect with advising through our SLU 101 Orientation Program. Please contact your Admission Counselor if you are unalbe to attend SLU 101.

New international Students will be contacted by an advisor once their visa is on file with the University.

Degree Works - Evaluate your Degree Progress

Degree Works is Saint Louis University’s online degree evaluation and is available via mySLU.

Review your degree audit prior to meeting with your advisor or mentor, preparing any questions that you may have regarding your degree requirements.  You can also run a “what-if” scenario to see how your courses would fit into a different major or minor.

Academic Catalog

The Academic Catalog, updated every year, contains the latest information available at the time of publication regarding fees, courses, admission and graduation requirements, general regulations, and curricula.

Depending on your program, additional information may be available through your college, school, or program handbook.

Peer Advisors

SLU employs undergraduate students to serve as peer advisors. Peer advisors assist with schedule planning, using relevant University systems (like Canvas, Banner, etc.), and connect students with useful resources (like tutoring, career services, etc.). They do this through regular office hours as well as group events.

Peer advisors participate in regular training and staff meetings, including an 8-week training program in the fall semester. Students who work as peer advisors grow in their leadership skills, become actively engaged in the SLU community, get to contribute to the intellectual and personal growth of fellow students, and enance their interpersonal skills.

If you are interested in becoming a Peer Advisor, email us at Academic Advising.
